- My writing is a natural extension of my love of reading. From the day in first grade when I realized t-h-e was the word "the," I've been reading everything I can put my hands on. As a financial planner, I'm as at-home writing retirement and tax-planning advice as I am writing romance novels. But novels are a lot more fun.

Well, you know my opinion of the last contest. The first one I entered was run by a subgenre specific chapter that had a very objective scoring. I did great. But, hey, the book wasn't enough to snag a publisher. I got good feedback, though. Same from the other two, more mainstream. Didn't do as good on them, and I had one off the wall commentary from someone who had issues with the hero's mother being an alcoholic, and 'didn't read this kind of stuff but'. Needless to say, I didn't take that to heart. I think contests can sometimes offer feedback, but so much is subjective. And as an unpubbed author, should we even really be a judge as to what is 'publishable'? I've been a judge, too, so I can get snarky and ask that. Because I do wonder.
